Looking for an Architect? Here is Our Advice

Are you in the stages where you are about to start the hunt for an architect to undergo a radical transformation on your home or an owned building? Do you need architectural advice? It is a huge decision and a huge amount of information to get through.

As you would expect, an architectural design company will differ from the next in terms of the language used, which aspects they emphasize and, of course, their fees and scope structure. On your part, what you need to keep as a focus are three key considerations – the long-term relationship, the fundamentals and the style and interpretation.

With you wanting the best architect to work with over a lengthy period to finish your dream project, let’s take a look into these considerations and why they are important in your choosing.

Long-Term Relationship

You know the old saying – ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. A beautiful home is built in one either. It takes a lot of patience and hard work on these projects, including when aspects of the construction need to be amended or worked around.

For however long the project takes to complete, you will be working alongside a Manchester architect from inception to completion, liaising back and forth on every step. The key consideration here is ensuring that your architect is someone who can communicate easily, is reliable and is someone that you can build a solid connection with. This is invaluable as the project rolls forward and makes the process more enjoyable and the connection trusted.

If an architect has multiple members handling different aspects of the project, our architectural advice would be to get to know them all before the project begins.

The Fundamental Considerations

Of course, we cannot discuss a potential project with an architect without discussing the three big fundamentals – budget, timeframe and quality.

Regardless of scale or scope, these form the key parameters of your project and the only way to ensure enjoying the journey, as well as the result, is to keep all of them under control. Trust us, it is not an easy balancing act – it is a very fine balance.

To deliver a high-quality project that aligns with your budget and timeframe, you need to choose an architectural practice that you believe has the same intention behind its knowledge and experience to keep the control in your hands.

One way you can reinforce this is by checking the architect’s success with planning applications throughout the region or entering your architect’s name in the search criteria of your local council’s planning applications page for previous track records and success rates.

Style and Interpretation

An important factor is that is not enough for an architect to simply listen to what you want – you will need their architectural interpretation and for them to be able to easily translate it for you.

Stockport architects will reflect your requirements and aspirations through their designs, translating the best mix of your ideas and their practical thinking into making it a reality. The best way to discover if your architect falls into this type of style is to read reviews from previous clients of that architect. This will give a reflection of what they are like to work with and how they added satisfaction to their vision through their interpretation.

Your new home is not just some beautiful object, it is a backdrop of your life and happiness. For architectural advice and architectural design in Stockport, contact the team at Cheadle Architects today. We can create a property that tells your story.

TESTIMONIALS

Now nearing completion, I thought this an opportune time to write a testimonial for Stelios from Cheadle Architects.

Liz and I always dreamt of that showroom quality, bright white open plan kitchen diner … the kind you see on TV and not in your own house, but where do you start? … The answer is simple, find someone who shares your vision, grabs it by both hands and not only delivers the goods, but improves on your ideas 10-fold! – Stelios was that person.

From the moment we discussed our ideas you could tell his creative cogs where turning… Not only did he provide us with 1 option, but 3!!! … each detailed to a high level. We would have never thought of squeezing in a utility room with its own external access, let alone removing the whole ground floor wall of the house and stepping back into the existing property nearly 2m.

Stelios organised all the necessary civils, building regs etc and delivered professionally whilst working to a tight timeline so the builders could start without delay.

Stelios – You did a great job and worked long hours to get this sorted for us… So… something I think I be repeating a lot … word of mouth goes along way… and I certainly will not be shy in telling everyone who asks who designed our wonderful extension…. “Stelios from Cheadle Architects did!”.

We had met with three architects prior to meeting Stelios. This meant that we really knew what could be achieved and how professionals behaved in our property.
From the start, Stelios blew us away. He was thorough, honest and listened carefully to all we both required from our home. He didn’t make wild promises but worked logically through all the options explaining every step.
By the end, we had a very clear and wonderful design really taking into account all our likes and wants for the build. He made changes in a very short period of time whenever we thought of something new and helped us visualise stages if we were ever unsure. And our builders were more than happy to have drawings in front of them which gave us confidence we were all on the same page.
Stelios went above and beyond connecting us with a structural engineer, and visiting the build site several times – just out of interest and enthusiasm – offering invaluable suggestions and advice which ultimately helped us achieve the family home we dreamt of.
It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Stelios and we couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thank you, Stelios!
