Move Home or Extend?: Which Is Advisable?

According to the House Price Index, house value is continuing to fall and that landscape is due to continue a slow descent throughout 2023. At the same time, construction output is expected to fall, leading to builders becoming readily available towards home alterations and extensions.

With many homeowners facing great difficulty in selling their homes and successfully gaining a new one, it may be the right time to explore an option where all the positives line up. Altering or extending your existing home to meet your lifestyle expectations may be the most cost-effective and satisfying alternative when working with Manchester architects that achieve your vision of your dream property from your existing one.

Gaining the Space You Need

The first step in talks with an architect in Cheadle is not to tell us the design that you want – it is more to tell us how you want to live. Understanding your current lifestyle and what you want to build on top of that helps us to come to you with inspired design choices that you didn’t think were possible – or you never imagined would appeal.

At Cheadle Architects, we set out to improve your home via different types of extension design to realise more spacious, brighter environments that suit current family life, giving access to plenty of natural light and plenty of garden focus to make it an extension of its own.

As well as that, we have opened up the imagination through unique features such as vaulted ceilings and storage walls to add dimension to standard living spaces. A professional architect knows what it requires financially and emotionally to achieve a dream property that you want to stay in.

Design For Life

One constant thing is that needs do change over time, which is why you may have been looking to move in the first place. Children will grow up faster than you think and need a change around them, which needs to reflect in your long-term plans.

Think about your lifestyle point of view and what extra space would be required. Do you need a larger kitchen area or additional bedrooms? Would you benefit from light-filled kitchen family areas with doors opening up to the garden? Whilst some houses have a character that needs to be respected, some houses will greatly benefit from positive changes and a facelift that an architect can provide.

Work closely with Cheadle Architects to fully understand your design in detail before any construction would start. We work to make sure you are fully happy with your choices to avoid any additional costs should you change your mind during the construction process.

TESTIMONIALS

Now nearing completion, I thought this an opportune time to write a testimonial for Stelios from Cheadle Architects.

Liz and I always dreamt of that showroom quality, bright white open plan kitchen diner … the kind you see on TV and not in your own house, but where do you start? … The answer is simple, find someone who shares your vision, grabs it by both hands and not only delivers the goods, but improves on your ideas 10-fold! – Stelios was that person.

From the moment we discussed our ideas you could tell his creative cogs where turning… Not only did he provide us with 1 option, but 3!!! … each detailed to a high level. We would have never thought of squeezing in a utility room with its own external access, let alone removing the whole ground floor wall of the house and stepping back into the existing property nearly 2m.

Stelios organised all the necessary civils, building regs etc and delivered professionally whilst working to a tight timeline so the builders could start without delay.

Stelios – You did a great job and worked long hours to get this sorted for us… So… something I think I be repeating a lot … word of mouth goes along way… and I certainly will not be shy in telling everyone who asks who designed our wonderful extension…. “Stelios from Cheadle Architects did!”.

We had met with three architects prior to meeting Stelios. This meant that we really knew what could be achieved and how professionals behaved in our property.
From the start, Stelios blew us away. He was thorough, honest and listened carefully to all we both required from our home. He didn’t make wild promises but worked logically through all the options explaining every step.
By the end, we had a very clear and wonderful design really taking into account all our likes and wants for the build. He made changes in a very short period of time whenever we thought of something new and helped us visualise stages if we were ever unsure. And our builders were more than happy to have drawings in front of them which gave us confidence we were all on the same page.
Stelios went above and beyond connecting us with a structural engineer, and visiting the build site several times – just out of interest and enthusiasm – offering invaluable suggestions and advice which ultimately helped us achieve the family home we dreamt of.
It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Stelios and we couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thank you, Stelios!
