Can You Work From Home During a Renovation on Your House?

The plans are drawn, the paperwork is signed, and the contractors are onboard and ready to start on your agreed vision – but have you considered the amount of disruption to your working life if you work from your property? If moving home is one of the most stressful exercises in life, deciding to have home renovations whilst you work from it will be right up there with it. After all, you can account for many things – but unexpected setbacks and problems that arise can result in chaos in your working life.

However, there are survival tips that Cheadle Architects can provide through our extensive renovation projects for people who work from home.

At Home During Your Renovation

We understand that staying at home during your home renovation project assures that everything is going to plan, but when you work from that same property, you should prepare so that you are ready for anything.

The first thing you should do is to relocate your space to an area of the house destined to see very little in the way of obstruction and make things as easy as possible for the construction. Decluttering the area and getting rid of anything unwanted, safely tucking away as much as possible and storing any excess items in storage or relatives’ homes until the work is completed will greatly aid in minimising the chaos.

Having any kind of home renovations will provide plenty of dust around the house, so it is best to protect everything by investing in dust covers and sheets (or old bedsheets if you have them to spare). You can even cover the doorway of the room you are working in so that dust does not invade your working space.

We also advise that you invest in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. Renovations are loud, meaning that concentration will always be broken without them.

Plan With Your Architect

Building work is notoriously unpredictable and renowned for things to happen that will need adjusting in the plan, delays and unexpected costs. While you cannot control everything, there are steps you can take with your Manchester architect to maximise the oversight of your project.

If you are planning on embarking on a home renovation or house extension, talk with our architect about your conditions, ideas, inspirations and worries ahead of the work being planned to make sure all angles of consideration are covered. When you work with architects in Cheadle, we are with you every step of the way to ensure everything works to plan.

Putting your home in someone else’s hands is a very personal thing to trust in. Cheadle Architects can help you to achieve the ability to work from home whilst the project is being professionally constructed, with minimum disruption to your working day.

TESTIMONIALS

We had met with three architects prior to meeting Stelios. This meant that we really knew what could be achieved and how professionals behaved in our property.
From the start, Stelios blew us away. He was thorough, honest and listened carefully to all we both required from our home. He didn’t make wild promises but worked logically through all the options explaining every step.
By the end, we had a very clear and wonderful design really taking into account all our likes and wants for the build. He made changes in a very short period of time whenever we thought of something new and helped us visualise stages if we were ever unsure. And our builders were more than happy to have drawings in front of them which gave us confidence we were all on the same page.
Stelios went above and beyond connecting us with a structural engineer, and visiting the build site several times – just out of interest and enthusiasm – offering invaluable suggestions and advice which ultimately helped us achieve the family home we dreamt of.
It was an absolute pleasure dealing with Stelios and we couldn’t recommend highly enough. Thank you, Stelios!

Now nearing completion, I thought this an opportune time to write a testimonial for Stelios from Cheadle Architects.

Liz and I always dreamt of that showroom quality, bright white open plan kitchen diner … the kind you see on TV and not in your own house, but where do you start? … The answer is simple, find someone who shares your vision, grabs it by both hands and not only delivers the goods, but improves on your ideas 10-fold! – Stelios was that person.

From the moment we discussed our ideas you could tell his creative cogs where turning… Not only did he provide us with 1 option, but 3!!! … each detailed to a high level. We would have never thought of squeezing in a utility room with its own external access, let alone removing the whole ground floor wall of the house and stepping back into the existing property nearly 2m.

Stelios organised all the necessary civils, building regs etc and delivered professionally whilst working to a tight timeline so the builders could start without delay.

Stelios – You did a great job and worked long hours to get this sorted for us… So… something I think I be repeating a lot … word of mouth goes along way… and I certainly will not be shy in telling everyone who asks who designed our wonderful extension…. “Stelios from Cheadle Architects did!”.
