This was a challenging project because the building was too small for the client and planner would not allow the ridge height to increase too high to build an additional floor, Cheadle Architects used its considerable knowledge and talents to problem solve to raise them slightly higher, raise the pitch level and comfortably add bedrooms upstairs to give a vaulted ceiling feel.
Maximising the light, a mixture of double-height space was created over the living area for a dramatic feel and cathedral style glazing was installed to allow natural light to shine through giving a stylish tint. Half of the house was created using more conventional bedrooms with matching ceiling heights.
With various options presented and work done closely in conjunction with the structural engineer, solutions were achieved for such areas as corner glazing instead of traditional columns. Certain areas were revisited around spacing arrangements and room connection to explore as many options as possible.
